12 month countdown to Europe

Postby KTM950 on 05 Jun 2010 14:11

End of May 2011 i will finally ride to Europe. Route Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria.

Iran will be hotels only (to hot) and from Turkey onwards camping (1 rain cloud and i am in a hotel). All the way i kept the options open for camping or hotel. The trip is scheduled for 18 days in total. Istanbul will be for 2 nights to get the bike serviced.

Anybody interessted to join?

Hi Gerhard,
i would love to join you, but,Iran might be a problem to me, my plan was Jordan ,Syria and turkey, just to avoid Iran.
i do believe that they might not be very friendly with me since i'm a UAE local, and i'm afraid that they might even confiscate my bike at the custom. :(

anyway, worst case scenario, we might meet up somewhere in Turkey.

cheers mate

That bad?

Seems we have to meet in Van. I will need 6 days to reach there. Guess you will need longer if you ride through Saudi.

Saudi, out of the plan.. im going to ship the bike to Jordan . my trip will start from there., i'll take it easy in Jordan, i'll pass by the dead see, and visit El Betra and camp one night in Wadi Rum. we will meet somewhere in Turkey.
Iran is definitely out of question for me, most of the feedback from my local friends are negatives.. only few who recommend that i have to have some one there to help me just in case if i fall in trouble. i would really love to visit Iran, but not in this time mate.
cheers

2 day stop in Istanbul... for servicing of the bike... I haven't checked yet, but I am assuming that BMW have a workshop there as well! :P

I am interested... I just need to see how it fits in with other travel plans we are making at the moment...

you mentioned a travel agent or something which was able to sort out visas and that sort of thing... you have a link? what about getting the Carnet for the bike... where do we go for that?
'04 R1150GS, Handlebar Risers, Footpeg Extenders, more to come soon I hope!
